It's certainly not legal to use both installations at the same time (nor even to install under two different OS versions).

So very 'strictly speaking' it is perhaps not quite legal, or at least not intended, to install two copies of say Photoshop with both at home, or both at work/the office (one exception is where having the secondary install on a laptop, e.g. for mobile/travelling use) - the reason being that it would be too easy/tempting for companies/people to 'surreptitiously' cheat, and use two installations simultaneously (two different users/'seats'), for the cost of just the one licence. (From what I remember Adobe only allows installation on two PCs.)Īgain 'strictly speaking' - where a secondary installation is permitted, this perhaps really should only be in the scenario where the main install is for business use, whereby a second installation is allowed for the same user to install the same software for home-use (primarily intended to allow the licenced user to 'work at home').

I don't know whether that will be a factor or not-From what I'm reading here, I assume not. I had this software on two previous PCs, the last of which melted down before I could de-activate it (or whatever the process is called). I do have an prior license, just in case anyone was wondering. Initially Adobe's 'CS2 downloads' page was wide open to the public - but a while later, they now require at least an 'Adobe ID' to access their own download page.Īlthough Adobe effectively made the software freely downloadable - nevertheless, as I said, 'strictly speaking', it is not legal to install/use it without being in possession of a prior licence. They made the software available to download, for the benefit of existing licence holders who would otherwise be unable to 'activate' their legitimately owned software should they need to reinstall it. No - despite what some press/web reports might say, Adobe did not "give-away" any licence(s)/rights to install or use the software. Maybe I don't understand as CS2 was an Adobe "giveaway" quite a while back and can "legally" be downloaded and used from many locations.

If you have an Adobe ID you can sign in and download a full copy of CS2 along with a serial number, which together should allow reinstallation of the software without the activation process (for which the servers have now been turned off).

Are we in no-man's land (e.g., like Windows XP users)? Will I have to deal with prompts to register and activate with serial number every time I open the program? Is it possible to actually register by phone? I know that Adobe took the CS2 server down, but am not sure what that means for people like me who are still trying to install and use the product. I tried to install CS2 on my new Windows 8.1 PC, and while the installation went OK, I was not able to register or activate with my license number. I have been using CS2 since it was new and have never felt like upgrading.
